Another crazy month with unexpected travel. We did get to sail to Looe Key and try out, what is reported as, the best snorkeling in the Keys. It is about 19 miles away and allowed us to spend the weekend in Newfound Harbor.
It was a pretty rough day, with the swell coming in from the Atlantic, but I found the snorkeling to be average. I think our own Sombrero Reef is just as good, if not better. The water is approaching 80 degrees again, so you can snorkel for a long time.
Finally got the new invertor/charger installation complete. Amazing what you find when you start digging into past installations. Had to rewire all of the AC from the shore power inlets and install a new breaker box with an AC buss. Now we are up to code and safe. Found there had been a meltdown, in the old breaker box, due to improper wire gauges and oversized fuses and breakers. Spent nearly as much money on components as I did for the inverter/charger.
We still have another month here in the Keys. Enjoy your spring commissioning of your boats, cars and homes.

Newfound Harbor
Once upon time there was a famous sea captain. The captain was very successful at what he did for years, he guided merchant ships all over the world. Never did stormy seas or Pirates get the best of him. He was admired by his crew and fellow captains. However there was one thing different about this captain. Every morning he went through a strange ritual. He would lock himself in his captains quarters and open a small safe. In the safe was an envelope with a piece of paper inside. He would stare at the paper for a minute, then lock it back up.
ReplyDeleteAfter, he would go about his daily duties. For years this went on and his crew became very curious. Was it a treasure map? Was it a letter from a long lost love? Everyone speculated about the contents of the strange envelope. One day, the captain died at sea. After laying the captains body to rest the first mate led the entire crew to the captains quarters. He opened the safe, got the envelope, opened it and...The first mate turned pale and showed the paper to the others. Four words were on the paper, two on two lines: PORT LEFT, STARBOARD RIGHT. Norbert
