As mentioned, we installed the mast on Tuesday. I was able to get the Spartite poured that evening and we are waiting for a full cure. We plan to rig the boom and sail on Saturday.
I am going to post several pictures and I have many thanks to give. The yard crew and especially Miles (long blond hair). They have never raised a mast here before. Miles had confidence he could handle the forks and in my experience doing this. The other option would be to hire a professional rigger who comes with a crane. Once you get away from Oriental, NC, the sailboat yards are few and far between. Kevin and Bob, at Kaitlynn Marina, allowed me to help each year with stepping and unstepping the mast, so I knew where to sling and the steps involved. Dick Davenport, Rochester native, he was there and, being a former sailor, was very helpful. He also was able to interpret my directions from below to Miles and where he had to move the top of the mast. I must thank my soul mate, Admiral Yammy. She always believes I can do anything. It must be the drugs I give her every night.
You will see my shirt in the last picture is soaking wet. I never experienced the heat like we have here. The temps may not be more than Rochester, but the humidity and the strength of the sun is brutal. I am understanding why the locals try to get everything done before noon.
It went well. No scratches and it looks great. We'll post again when we have her fully rigged.
Found the center of gravity to be right where the radar was. This forced us up above the radar and radar reflector.
Can't we go any higher? This was my concern with the higher strap point. Miles was able to tilt the forks back to get just enough height, but we were maxed out.
Dick Davenport. Many of you know him,a great guy and very helpful.
We had to swing the mast out over the life lines due to the lower height. Dick....Catch!
Yumsuch is fussy and only likes it one way :)
Mated!
Yup, we did it!
